Plaster

Finally mixed some plaster - this is about 1/2 of the 50 lb. bag.  This all took longer than I thought and I made quite a mess in the process!  Did spray some WD 40 on the inside of the plastic container and as I write, it's drying.  The hardest part was getting the surface to be smooth and level.   And while the plaster is already pulling away from the plastic, I wonder how to get it out of it in one piece.  I must admit that I have had this bag of plaster for 6 months and while the instructions online said to sift the plaster as it goes into the water, this quickly became so tedious.  So, I just dumped it in little by little.  And it looks like it turned out well.
Meanwhile, I trimmed several bowls and made several more.  The bowls in the back are made with 3/4 lbs. of clay.  Small mixing bowls.  Tomorrow, will trim all these and make some larger ones!  It's good to be back in the rhythm of throwing clay and it's so much easier to step away from it and come back quickly!

I like your bowls, and also your attitude of coming back gently and slowly. I find it takes me a few days to get back into making things on the wheel if I have not done it for a while, and I say to myself that, if I only have 4 simple things to show for my days potting, but do that every day for a week, I have over 20 items!

Of course, the good thing is, that the success rate improves over the week, and so does the speed, and soon I am producing 20 bowls in a day and starting to wish that I hadn't by the next day... because I have the foot rims to trim before I can make more!

Anyway, the bowls that you have made look nice, and a form like that would be good for hot food, as the shape wraps around and helps keep in the heat.

I hate messing with plaster - such a messy job. I put it off until I can rope Mark into helping.
Nice bowls!

Each time I make a plaster slab or bowl the results improve. The flip side of your slab will probably be nice and smooth. I let plaster dry out on a wire rack for at least a weeks.
