Dreams

It's been a long week and well, it's been a long month.  And I haven't been at the wheel.  Spent a week in Costa Rica and have been working more than ever as long as I can remember.  This priest work is so exhausting sometimes.
Life is too short for such.  Yet I'm thankful for work.
One of the losses is not taking the time to be at the wheel.  It's good that I'm still dreaming about a lot of things.
Too many to write here.
I can say that I will be at the wheel tomorrow.  :)
And these pieces and reading your blog posts invite me to keep at this pottery thing (which I love), and find a way somehow to make time for it.
And, as I said, life is too short not to.
Lately, I've been thinking about dreams.  On the jar above (cone 10, phoenix clay, reduction) is the quote by Langston Hughes:  "Hold fast to dreams for life without dreams is like a bird with a broken wing that cannot fly."  It's one of my favorite pieces.  It's never going anywhere and neither are the other two pictured in this post.
Here's another dream piece.  It has words from a song written and recorded by Peter Mayer (lead guitarist for Jimmy Buffett).  It's cone 6, and some Highwater earthen red clay.  I love its words.  His music is the best.
I plan to spend a good amount of time this weekend reading "Mastering Cone 6 Glazes" by Hesselberth and Roy (in dark in the back of the pic).  It is awaiting attention from me.  Just finished a delicious mushroom tofu soup--- with some noodles, soy sauce, and onions in of course, a Ron Philbeck bowl.  How I love eating out of handmade pottery!  I can't ever go back.
Hopeful about so much!  Still dreaming....
And thanks for reading, by the way...

I emailed that Langston Hughes quote to my daughter on her first day of college. It's a great quote. My father in law is a baptist preacher, I know all too well how hard you guys work. His phone never stops ringing with people's needs and he answers them all. Oh lord, I cringe at the thought of you reading my blog post today :) you might have to say a little prayer for me. You will find plenty of time for that wheel, just be patient, it isn't going anywhere

Tracey- I had already read your blog post. I actually really appreciate and value your honesty; I also think that people who copy others' work (inadvertently or knowingly) most often says more about that person (the copier). I think that just being true to yourself is best, regardless of how others respond. Anyway, I hope you'll just be you. That's what the world needs. Only one you anyway! Hope to come nearby and would be fun to meet you sometime and would love to see your studio.

Just thinking some more.... one of my mantras is that it's important to not jump to conclusions about why others do what they do. So many things we will never know. Kindness and generosity also do wonders!
Life is quite an adventure, isn't it?

You are so right! My daughter called me and said I need to remember my zen pause. How did this child get so wise with such an impulsive mom!? I told her I was home alone yesterday and had no parental guidance haha!

oh, the shelves.... I tried those in my studio but it is so small they took up way to much of my floor space, So I went to Lowes, bought some brackets with those things you screw into the wall to hold them (the things with notches, I have no idea what you call these things, wall brackets, maybe?) anyway.... then I bought some 1X6X6 boards and I have easy, adjustable and cheap shelves.
I like that I can adjust the heights since I make sculpture, but the ones you are looking at worked fine for me, just too big....
let me know when you head up this way, there is a lot to do!
